Description Position: General Manager/Chief Operating Officer Status: Full-Time, Exempt Reports to: Board of Directors and Club President POSITION SUMMARY The Club at UK s Spindletop Hall (the Club ) is the Faculty, Staff and Alumni Social Club of the University of Kentucky, operating a restaurant, event venue, pools and outdoor recreational facilities at Spindletop Hall, a historic Mansion located on 10 acres in rural Fayette County, Kentucky leased from the University. The Club is non-profit corporation, managed by a Board of Directors in coordination with the University. The General Manager/Chief Operating Officer (GM) oversees and manages all Club operations and is the Club s primary liaison to Club members and the University of Kentucky. The Club operates on a full-time schedule during its busy season of late spring through end of summer and December holiday season and on a reduced schedule during other timers of the year. The GM/COO position is full-time. DUTIES Administration: To supervise the overall administration of the Club, including, with the support of staff, overseeing scheduling and events, membership satisfaction and recruitment, marketing, financial controls with an emphasis on cash controls, financial reporting and other appropriate administrative functions to ensure successful operation of the Club. Good technical skills are essential. Budget: In coordination with the Club s full-time Business Manager and volunteer Treasurer, prepare and present to the Board of Directors for approval, the annual operating budget and capital budget. Upon approval, implement and adhere to the budgets. The GM/COO coordinates the financial activities of the Club with the appropriate Board Committees, Treasurer, Business Manager and the Development Department at the University of Kentucky. The GM/COO must be the motivating factor behind the Club generating revenue through dues, restaurant sales and catered and special events and maintain appropriate cost controls. Staffing: The GM/COO is responsible for obtaining suitable personnel to fill positions approved by the Board. This includes the oversight, coaching and development of personnel, as well as responsibility for the hiring and release of all Club personnel. Operations: The GM/COO has responsibility for Club programs and activities, including: Mansion: Work with and oversee the Club s chef, wedding coordinator(s) and event coordinator(s) for the operation of the Mansion s restaurant, catered events and social programs for all members of the Club. Outdoors: Work with and oversee the Club s Outdoor Recreation Director regarding outdoor facilities and activities and work with the Chef and Service Staff to oversee the outdoor food venues. Maintenance: Coordination with Club Maintenance Personnel and the UK Physical Plant Department for maintenance and improvement of the Mansion and grounds. Member Liaison. The GM/COO is responsible for being the primary liaison to the Club s membership, including addressing member requests and complaints that are elevated beyond the ability of staff to sufficiently address. University of Kentucky. As the UK Faculty, Staff and Alumni Club, the Club has a close and important relationship with the University of Kentucky. The GM/COO is responsible for coordinating this relationship and being the primary liaison between the Club and appropriate officers and personnel of UK. This includes participating in board-initiated fund-raising for the Club s Development Fund maintained by the University. Board/Committees. The GM/COO will work with the Club s Board of Directors and all Club committees. Other: Other duties as required. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS All candidates must have experience in management in the hospitality industry, exceptional leadership and team-building skills and financial literacy. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Minimum 5 years of experience in management in the hospitality industry (e.g., social clubs, hotels, event venues, restaurants, etc.) * Bachelor s degree required. * Candidate needs to demonstrate business capability in past work experiences, including knowledge of bookkeeping and financial reporting. ATTRIBUTES * Hands on, roll up your sleeves, can do attitude. * Unquestionable personal integrity and credibility necessary to gain trust of individuals both internally and externally. * Appropriate temperament to address Member, Board and University concerns and problem solve issues that arise. LOCATION Lexington, KY COMPENSATION Compensation to be determined based on experience and attributes of the successful candidate, it will include base salary, benefits and target bonuses.
