Job Summary / Purpose
The Infection Preventionist (IP) is a part of a team
responsible for implementation of the infection prevention program
perform ongoing surveillance and epidemiologic review of patients,
and the environment for the facility / facilities. The Infection
uses epidemiological principles and methods for identification and
of infectious diseases to patients and healthcare workers. The
Preventionist is focused on surveillance, which is done to identify
areas of risk
and develop evidence based strategies to prevent the development of
acquired infections (HAIs). These strategies include staff and
in-services as well as educational tool development. The position

The Infection Preventionist works collaboratively with the
data support specialist/ analyst and the Director / Manager to

Preventionist is active in the classification and reporting of all
community acquired infections. The position will adhere to

Disease Control (CDC) and other regulatory bodies and will enter
information accurately and timely into National Healthcare Safety
(NHSN) system. The Infection Preventionist will work with the local
health department to identify trends in reportable diseases.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Infection Prevention &
Control: Administrative Oversight
- Implement a hospital wide
Infection Prevention program, coordinate surveillance reports and

epidemiologist on a regular basis regarding trends in organisms

- Collaborate with facility and
department leaders to implement infection control best
- Provide consultation related
to infection prevention and control and communicable
- Provide consultation to
employee health program for employee practices, prevention and
strategies for infectious/communicable diseases.
- Collaborate with other
infection preventionists across other KYOne facilities and promote
in local, state, and/or national forums.
- Serve as Infection Prevention
representative for health care associated product

subject matter expert to plant facilities / engineering on indoor
construction and new facility development.
- Serve as Infection Prevention

Required Education for Staff Job Levels
Bachelor's degree and
minimum of 1 year experience in the discipline OR 3 years'
experience in the
discipline, OR Master's degree and no experience. --
Required Licensure and

years.-- Registered Nurse, currently licensed in
Commonwealth of Kentucky.
