Description: Kentucky Derby Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
charitable organization that sits on the front steps of historic
Churchill Downs Racetrack. It is one of the premiere attractions in
the Louisville region, celebrating the tradition, history,
hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the
Kentucky Derby. The Museum welcomes over 250,000 visitors annually;
a large percentage of those visitors come from outside of Kentucky,
journeying from across the country and the world. Position Purpose:
The primary purpose for this position is to provide customer
service to guests of the Museum in the Retail Store. The Retail
Sales Associate shall greet and assist customers, perform sales
functions related to point-of-sales procedures, open and close the
store, and follow store procedures, policies, and operational
functions. The Retail Sales Associate will report to the Retail
Sales Manager. This position has no direct supervisory
responsibilities. Essential Functions/Accountabilities: Provides
excellent customer service by making a connection with customers,
asking questions and listening to their needs while suggesting
products, based on their feedback. Opens and closes the store,
following proper procedures documented on the opening and closing
checklist. Opens and closes registers, performs basic tasks, such
as, counting money, utilizing manual cash and charge receipts,
separating charge slips, making change and balancing cash drawers.
Maintains product knowledge across all categories, including
promotions and point-of-sale procedures. Reviews all e-mails, phone
messages, letters, or other correspondence directed to the store.
Reviews the "Hot Sheet" and "Daily Task List". Adheres to visual
standards, selling floor presentations, and restocking sales floor.
Performs sales support functions related to point-of-sales
procedures. Provides fast and accurate checkout service. Assists
with inventory receiving, processing, restocking, and catalog and
e-commerce order fulfillment. Follows loss prevention policies and
procedures. Abides by the Museum dress code. While every effort has

feedback. Minimum Qualifications: Highschool diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of six months of retail experience required. Ability to
stand for long periods of time, quickly walk up and down stairs to
restock product. Able to work in inclement weather conditions
during racing. Ability to perform retail math and practice safe
cash handling. Must be able to sufficiently pass a criminal
background check. Must be able to handle stress and pressure of
high-volume sales and visitors while giving great customer service.
Must be available to work on Oaks, Derby, and the Sunday of Derby
weekend. Must be available to work during the week of FFA and
Breeders Cup, when held in Louisville. Work Schedule: Approximately
20-25 hours per week during operating hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM
(open all days of the week) and during racing and nightly events.
Includes shifts during racing season and nightly events. This is a
Seasonal position, running from February 2026 – July 2026. Longer
hours are necessary during peak seasons such as Spring Meet, Derby
Week, September Meet, Fall Meet, Breeders Cup, End of Year
Inventory, etc. in addition to bi-monthly staff meetings which
occur outside of operating hours. Working Conditions: While
performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly
required to stand for long periods of time, walk, climb stairs, and
move merchandise around. This individual will be required to lift
packages up to 35lbs. The employee is required to have non-standard
workday hours during the spring and fall sessions. All indoor
spaces are air-conditioned, although some job duties may take place
outside, on the loading dock or in another non-climate-controlled
space. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly exposed to a crowded work area. To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to navigate a crowded area
